Why weren't we told about hunt kennels?

We have recently found out that the Mendip Farmers Hunt submitted a planning application for hunt kennels, flesh house, mobile home and stabling on the edge of Chewton Mendip two months ago on March 15.

Considering the significant impact this commercial development will have on the local area, I am appalled that the applicants failed to disclose their intentions before making this submission.

There was no prior consultation with Chewton Mendip Parish Council or residents of the village.

Although not a hunt member, I have supported many of their fundraising activities and am devastated to find that the plans were in fact kept deliberately from us. I will object to this development and ask others to consider the integrity of the Hunt Committee in this matter.

Should you have any concerns, letters to Mendip District Council must be received by June 4.

Re: Relocation of hunt kennels to Chewton Mendip.

As residents we are deeply concerned by this controversial move.

Mendip Hunt must explain why nearly 80 dogs are needed for the pursuance of legal hunting or for the dubious claim of drag hunting.

Having experienced bullying and arrogant behaviour by certain members of the hunt we fully agree with Ivan Ponting's excellent letter of May 20.
