Steven Webber, who is Bursar of Wells Cathedral School, is also the Commanding Officer of HMS Flying Fox.
Commander Webber has been at the helm for three years at the Bristol-based unit and previously served full-time in the Royal Navy before transferring to the RNR.
He said: "I have been a member of the reserves for almost six years and very much enjoy it.
"I always have to strike a balance between my work, reserve and family commitments.
"I'm extremely proud of the reserve forces and look forward to increasing public awareness of the work we do."
Also in uniform on Friday was city councillor, former mayor and business owner Simon Davies. Simon, who is based at HMS Flying Fox, serves as a reservist as an Able Seaman in the Maritime Trade Organisation branch.
Speaking wearing his 'number one' uniform serving coffee in Pickwick's Caffe, Wells, Simon said: "I have enjoyed being part of the Royal Naval Reserve since I rejoined in 2007.
"I believe the reserves offer an opportunity to learn new skills as well as re-using existing skills in a different environment.
"This is another way of serving the community that I work in as well as doing something completely different."
From the Territorial Army, Becky Cooper was proudly wearing her uniform.
While serving, Becky is known as Lance Corporal Cooper and her unit is the 21st Signal Regiment, 43 Signal Squadron. L Cpl Cooper was mobilised in late 2008 for service in Iraq.
Her main job is that of manager of the family-owned Wells Film Centre.
Becky said: "I, alongside many other reservists, volunteered for a tour of duty in Iraq. My combat role involved radio and communications. However, being a reservist is not all about mobilising to a combat zone."
Becky had some extra words for those who are thinking of joining one of the reserve forces.
She said: "I would encourage anyone who is able to join to do so. It's great fun and it's very surprising the range of people you meet and the jobs you do."
