Get in touch if you can help
I JUST wanted to share with readers my appreciation that Ivor Needs found the time to write to Post Letters to highlight Bristol City Council's Shared Lives scheme, "Love and care as if they were their own", (Friday 9 August). I recently had the opportunity to visit a Shared Lives family in Whitchurch where a loving and lively home was provided by Andy and Fran Glover for three adults with learning difficulties. As we all shared tea and cakes in the garden they told me what a difference it made to be living in a home that they had a hand in choosing and where they clearly felt part of the family, sharing meals, holidays and activities.
Ivor was right to be impressed with the service, as I was. As we modernise health and social care in the city these are the types of services we are wanting to grow, so there are real alternatives to residential care. We are actively recruiting more carers and if anyone thinks they could provide support and a caring home environment to vulnerable adults, either long-term or as a short term placement, please do get in touch.
