Stand-up comedian Paul Sinha is appearing at the Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton on Friday night as part of the 2013 Outset Festival
1) Party on the Pier... A party is being held at Weston-super-Mare Grand Pier on Friday evening to see in the start of half-term week. It runs from 6pm to 9.30pm and is open to all under-16s. Tickets cost £5 in advance or £7.50 on the door. There will be live music, DJs and unlimited rides.
2) Winter Cracker speedway... Somerset Rebels speedway fans get a rare chance to see some winter racing on Friday evening when the club stages its Winter Cracker. Sixteen top riders including Ben Barker and Lewis Bridger will be competing over 20 heats and a grand final. Tapes up at 7.30pm at the Oaktree Arena circuit.

3) Outset Festival... Taunton's Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre hosts this year's Outset Festival on Friday and Saturday. The festival, in its third year, celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender performance and community arts with a variety of movie screenings and stage shows. 4) February Model Show... The Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton hosts the February Model Show on Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm. A British Model Flying Association flying display will take place alongside exhibitions and stands from traders and clubs.
5) Taunton Titans v Hartpury College... Taunton Titans end their eight-week wait for a home fixture when Hartpury College visit Hyde Park on Saturday afternoon. The match gets under way at 3pm.
6) Garden exploration... If you're looking for half-term activities for the kids, why not visit the Bishop's Palace at Wells. A week of activities begins this weekend with a chance to explore the palace gardens and claim a pack full of fun activities.
7) Potato Day & Seed Swap... Frome's annual Potato Day & Seed Swap takes place at the Cheese and Grain on Sunday from 10am. It's a great event to visit to start planning your 2013 gardening projects.
8) Chinese New Year... There's a chance to celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton on Sunday. Free family activities will be laid on between midday and 5pm to see in the Year of the Snake.
