Why can't we use our own sacks?
QUESTION, when is a brown paper sack not a brown paper sack? Answer, when it's not bought from Bristol City Council.
We recycle quite a lot of garden waste and while quite happy to buy the green bin are not prepared to pay £32 per year to have it emptied when we pay enough in Council Tax already, sacks are also available at a cost of £1 each, or of course drive to the nearest tip.
We have been putting out the waste in used brown paper potato sacks for a couple of years now, recycling both the sacks and the garden waste without a problem, until two weeks ago that is, but this has now stopped we have to use the official sack with the logo on, what's the difference between one sack and another ? Ah yes – money, the same as having to pay to park outside your own home or wherever you can.
This Council wastes thousands of pounds on madcap schemes like closing roads on Sundays for example when all of the " street entertainment " could be situated on the many open spaces we have.

As far as we are aware no other local authorities charge for this "service" so from now on against better judgement the garden waste will go in the black bin and go to landfill.
