Farrington Golf Club's junior section celebrated a 2012 season which included a seventh successive Somerset League title at their annual presentation evening.

More than 100 juniors, parents and friends attended the event to recognise the achievements of the young players and to show appreciation to Steve and Mandy Hobbs, who have stepped down after six years as junior organisers.

Farrington fielded 20 players on the way to their Somerset League triumph but the highlight of the season was winning the South West qualifier for the Home Nations Cup, in which they eventually finished fifth.

County representation was also high, with players representing Somerset at all levels, while former Farrington junior Tom Small won the Somerset Men's Championship.

All the major club prize-winners were celebrated, including Josh Hilleard, who won the junior and men's titles for the second successive year.

Isabelle Hansford and Charlie Cook took the most improved player awards and Louis Archer was named most dedicated player. As part of the evening, £200 was raised for charity.

Meanwhile, the Farrington seniors' monthly qualifying Stableford saw Mike Ashwin edge out Steve Symonds on countback to win Division 1 on 39 points. Rob Thain was second on 38 and Brian Weeks was one further shot back in third.

Eric Nott was two clear at the top of Division 2 with 38 points, ahead of Malcolm Clarke, Ian Clement and Rob McKeegan- Brown.

The top score of the day went to Kirk Bizley with 41 points in Division 3, which was enough for a one-point victory over Mo Duery. John Holland finished third on 39, two ahead of fourth-placed Tony Edwards.

The nearest-the-pin competitions were won by Terry Thatcher, Steve Cook, Brian Brown and Jim Farmer.
