Tyre battle continues for Button
The Frome Flyer had to settle for seventh place at the Hungaroring in Budapest, but still has an 18.5-point lead over his nearest rival, who is now Mark Webber, after the Australian finished third at the weekend.
Button, who could only qualify in eighth place, but started with a heavy fuel-load, failed to make an impact in the race, which was won by fellow Englishman Lewis Hamilton.
The 29-year-old blamed problems with his tyres for the disappointing result and admitted that the car was not performing as well as at the start of the season.
"After four laps my tyres were destroyed," he said.
"I had rear graining and couldn't keep up with the cars in front.
"Our car is not what it was to drive a few races ago. It's not like it was at the start of the season, there is obviously an issue.
"We've had two different updates but they shouldn't unbalance the car.
"The other teams have improved their cars, but our car is not what it was to drive a few races ago.
"The good thing is we have a long time before the next race to solve it."
Button will next be in F1 action at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on August 23.
