The 19-year-old, who first picked up a bat with Frome CC, carried out 12th man duties for Somerset in their LV= County Championship match against Kent.
And when he came off the Taunton pitch, Barrow learnt of his selection for the England under-19 side to face Sri Lanka in a series of five one-day internationals.
"I scored runs against Sri Lanka for the under-18 development side the previous weekend and put myself in contention for a place," Barrow explained.
"I am thrilled because it is every young cricketer's dream to play for their country and I am really looking forward to the series."
The first of the five matches is at Fenners on Saturday, with the series concluding in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Canterbury the following Friday.
Barrow, who now plays for Bath CC, was awarded a county contract by Somerset last month.
