There's a lot at stake as TV production makes history
HAD you been in Vicars Close in Wells this week, you might just have spotted a group of late 17th century peasants burning a victim at the stake.
But rest assured this is not some new crime busting initiative.
A film crew was in town shooting the upcoming four part drama New Worlds, a follow up to the 2008 drama The Devil's Whore.
Director Charles Martin's credits include Skins, Wallander and Channel 4's Run.
The drama is described as a "gripping story of love and loss and the human price paid for the freedoms we enjoy today which spans two continents and the period up to the Glorious Revolution."
The Channel 4 head of drama, Piers Wenger, said: "I don't want to say too much about it.
"But it has a connection to The Devil's Whore and it takes place across two continents. The clue might be in the title."
New Worlds was one of three new dramas that were commissioned by Channel 4 in September 2012. The drama will premiere in spring 2014.
