An event organised for the young people of Street and Glastonbury has been hailed a success.

Dub Club was the second event held at Tor Leisure in Glastonbury for teenagers aged between 13 and 17, in response to complaints from young people they had nothing to do during the evening.

A local action team was set up, consisting of local residents, Neighbourhood Watch, Partners and Communities Together, the police, representatives of the media and Somerset Youth Volunteer Network.

Almost 200 young people attended the event, held on Friday night.

DJ Fivestack was on hand to play a blistering Drum n' Bass set, attended by youngsters from across Street, Glastonbury and the surrounding villages.

A spokesman for the local action team said those attending had been "as good as gold – a real credit to themselves, and to their parents."

Aimed at teenagers between 13 and 18 years old, organisers hope the success of the event will encourage other venues across Glastonbury to come forward and offer a place for young people to meet up.

A police spokeswoman said the event had been well-managed and they had received only one complaint of anti-social behaviour in the town following the event.
