First performance with a new name
West Mendip Orchestra is the new name of the orchestra that started more than 35 years ago in Winscombe with a performance in the local primary school.
Over the years it has grown to a full-size symphony orchestra tackling major pieces of classical music.

The orchestra took a major step forward with the appointment of Mark Gateshill as musical director in 2009.
Under his leadership the orchestra has moved to higher standards and expanded its ambitions.

"The new name lets people know the scale of the orchestra's ability and range.
