Twitter on the menu for school meals in Bridgwater

PARENTS will now be able to get updates about what their children are eating at school.

From September, Somerset County Services, which provides school lunches to 88 schools across the area, will be using micro-blogging site Twitter to update parents of their children's menus.

Parents who subscribe will receive a short message, or tweet, with the day's menu.

Information on themed days and how to get free school meals will also be provided.

Cathy Courts, of group Netmums, said: "Getting a menu every day will put parents in much better control of their child's diet.

"This is a clever use of a new technology."
