Big surprise for poetic One Show fan
The production team had organised a surprise street party for her back in Frome, with the help of her husband, Brian and cameras cut to the street at the end of the hour-long show.
Mandie had been invited to The One Show studio in London to talk about the town and her poem. At the end of the programme co-presenter, Adrian Chiles, told Mandie that they had to officiate the twinning of the show and the town.
It was then that the cameras cut to the street and a shocked Mandie watched the cameras take a guided tour of her home and then went out onto the street, where everyone was waiting to cheer her success.
The house had been covered in party lights, a special sign had been made to mark the town's twinning with the popular magazine show, and a host of local faces had been brought in to celebrate the award.
Frome's mayor, Cllr Damon Hooton, the town crier, Mike Bishop and the fire service were there in their regalia to congratulate her.
The Frome Youth Band played outside the house and hundreds of people including friends and neighbours cheered as the camera cut to the street.
Other organisations there included the Frome Amateur Operatic Society children's section, Frome police and the Charisma Twirlers majorettes. Her shocked face was seen by millions of people across the UK and at one point she said she was going to wet herself, which caused hysterical laughing in the studio.
Mandie said: "The BBC really looked after me when I went to the studio and I did not have a clue what was going on back in Frome that night. God knows how Brian and the boys kept it a secret from Tuesday to Friday!
"I think they did a brilliant job of editing it and putting the programme together but none of this would have happened if we didn't have so many interesting, creative and talented characters and organisations, such as the Frome Town Band, operating, living and working in Frome."
