We need to have them in Bristol
I OFTEN use an Oyster card on buses and the tube when visiting London. They save loads of time and offer real savings.
I would therefore be delighted if I thought that such a system might come here soon. However your recent story implied the decision was in the hands of First Bus. Surely that's illogical. If issued by First, would the cards be available on other operators' services? I think not. And the substantial investment in the system would ensure we would remain even more firmly in the hands of "Worst Bus" than we are now. In London the cards are issued and managed by Transport for London, not by a single operator.
Also the possible introduction of an Oyster-type system has been discussed here for at least four years to my knowledge; maybe more.
Will we continue to talk about it for another few years, while more and more UK cities bring their public transport systems into the 21st century..
