Sgt Justin Koerner said: "This was a despicable theft carried out on a vulnerable person. The victim is well regarded locally and has been recognised for his efforts in raising money for local charities.
"The theft occurred on a busy road in the town centre and it is possible someone saw the bags being taken or the men running from the area. I would appeal for anyone who can help to contact us."
Both men are described as white, in their 20s, and wearing dark puffa jackets and light-coloured trainers. One of them is believed to have been wearing a black baseball cap.

“Oh what wonderfully brave b******s, picking on somebody who is unable to defend themself. Pity the don't still have 'stocks' where, if they are apprehended, they could be put.”
