A future mayor has set a 780 mile cycling target to raise money for charity-funded medical research.

Jennifer Trotman, pictured left, deputy mayor of Axbridge, takes over from mayor Kate Browne in May.

She aims to raise as much money as possible for Action Medical Research by cycling in seven major events.

The seasoned cyclist is charting her progress on a cycling-only blog and is willing to wear sponsors' logos during the Forest of Dean Spring Classic on Sunday; Wales's Dragon Ride; Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride; the Merlin Ride in Carmarthenshire; the London to Paris ride; and either the South Downs Challenge in Southwick, near Portsmouth, or local favourite the Cheddar Cyclosportive.

She recently completed the 67-mile Mad March Hare in Worcester.

Action Medical Research aims to find answers to serious illnesses, chooses projects likely to find cures and was involved in discovering the polio vaccine, as well as developing hip replacements and ultra-sound scans.

So far, Cheddar Cycle Store, Cheddar Ales, Moneygivers Colour Print of Cheddar, Torq fitness, Buff headwear and Riverford Organic Veg Box Scheme have their logos carried on Jennifer's kit and blog.

The mayor making takes place in Axbridge Town Hall on Monday, May 11, at 7.30pm.
