Do not let ghosts of Iraq stop us
I WOULD like to send a "hear, hear" to Bob Farmer for his letter regarding the troubles in Syria. He is correct in questioning Russia's moral authority in this instance. What sense is there in taking advice from one dictator, Putin, in how to deal with a Syrian one, Bashar Al-Assad? What does it say about us as a country if we stay out of Syria because we are afraid of being bullied by Russia?
I am well aware that Syria is a country with a history of sectarian divisions.
But waiting for over two years for a diplomatic solution has merely exacerbated these divisions. Whatever the divisions of the rebels they are united under one goal; the overthrow of Bashar Al-Assad.
This country cannot let the ghosts of the Iraq war make us lose all perspective. It is our moral duty to help them consign Bashar Al-Assad to the dustbin of history.
