THE world record wasn't broken but the British record for the biggest three-legged race was awarded at Backwell School's summer fair.

There were 164 legs taking part in the 200m race, short of the 500 required for the world record but beating the previous record of 160.

Competitors were a mixture of young and old, tall and small, most of whom had followed instructions and paired themselves up with someone of a similar height and stride length.

But there were a few mishaps, with some pairs falling into a tangle on the school field making it all the more fun.

Karen Cook, from the Backwell Home School Association, said: "We had great fun and even had a few people who were watching from the sidelines join in."

Also at the fair was live music from African drumming band Le Baobab, a beer tent, hog roast, cream teas, games and stalls.
