THE Bath Half Marathon inspired and excited all those who either watched the race or read about in the media afterwards.

What a great way to warm up for Yeovil's third 13-mile race.

It appears you cannot drive through Yeovil of an evening without spotting at least a dozen joggers. Have they always been there or is this all part of post-Christmas fitness pledges or preparation for the big race on March 24?

Of course, Bath's is a mightier beast, with 11,156 runners pounding the 13-mile route around the city on Sunday watched by an estimated 30,000.

It also boasted a smattering of celebrities including Radio One DJ Greg James and TV presenter Dermot O'Leary.

Yeovil may not be able to attract such high profile entrants and big numbers – but it is still relatively in its infancy. Bath's event is now in its 32nd year.

Just imagine what Yeovil's could become if it continues to gain momentum in just half that time.
