Have guitar, will play rock 'n' roll in a band of 2,000
Lyme Regis beach, today
The seafront at Lyme Regis will come alive with the sound of music at 5pm this afternoon when some 2,000 guitarists join forces to play the rock 'n' roll classic Rave On in an attempt to become Britain's biggest ever band. The challenge to play chords G, C and D, in the right order and time, is open to all (register from 10am), but there are a few notable names in the line-up. These include Robbie McIntosh – whose world-class blues style has been harnessed by Paul McCartney, Chrissie Hynde and Chuck Berry, to mention but a few, former Stranglers man Hugh Cornwell and chef Mark Hix (pictured) who has a restaurant in the town. The three-minute event – followed by real bands in concert – coincides with what would have been Buddy Holly's 77th birthday. Visit guitarsonthebeach.co.uk.
