Anniversary of Vera and Bob Adams
Vera and Bob Adams, who say it was love at first sight when they met at Kirkstall Abbey, celebrated their diamond wedding by spending the day with friends.
They married at St Michael's Church in Headingley, Leeds, next door to Yorkshire County Cricket Club, on June 4, 1949, before moving to the West Country.
While in Yorkshire, Mr Adams, an accountant by profession, worked for the CWS clothing factory in Leeds, while his wife was a dressmaker.
The couple moved first to Brislington, Bristol, in 1964, where Mr Adams took up a similar position, before settling in Midsomer Norton 39 years ago.
Mrs Adams worked in the office of the Standard Cheque Book Company for 20 years before retiring.
Mr Adams has bee a member of the Lions Club for 28 years, and has held various posts in the group.
His wife, meanwhile, keeps busy with sewing and gardening.
She said: "We can't say we never argue because that wouldn't be true, but you have to work with each other.
"All I know is if time were to come again, I would do it all again."
The couple had put their celebrations on hold because of Mr Adams' ill health, but Mrs Adams said they had been pleased that friends from the Lions and bowls club had arrived to make it an enjoyable afternoon and evening celebration.
