Vienna Festival Ballet returns to The Playhouse Theatre with a traditional style production of the well-loved ballet Coppelia.
Danced to the beautiful music of Leo Delibes, this is one of the most magical and comical of the classic ballets combining humour, triumph and love, culminating in the wedding Pas de Deux.
Coppelia is a ballet which appeals to everyone who appreciates brilliant dance, and is also a wonderful ballet for family audiences who will delight in the story, colourful costumes and lively characters.
The story surrounds Dr Coppelius, a toy-maker, who has made a beautiful life-like mechanical doll named Coppelia.
He places her in his shop window, where the local villagers are amazed by her, and even begin to believe she is real.
Swanhilda and Franz are two of these villagers and Swanhilda gets jealous when she sees Franz blowing kisses at Coppelia.
Swanhilda and some of her friends break into the toy shop one day, but are caught by Dr. Coppelius.
Dr Coppelius tries to bring Coppelia to life and believes he has succeeded, only to find out that he had been tricked by Swanhilda and Franz.
This lively ballet, infused with old world charm, is one show not to be missed.
Vienna Festival Ballet was founded by the Australia Dancer Peter Mellek and has grown and prospered into an engaging dance company delighting audiences throughout Europe.
The company tour for eight months a year giving approximately 200 performances across the UK.
