The Dart Valley Stompers are a 6-piece Traditional Jazz Band founded in 2005 by Jeremy Hugett who enrolled the five most qualified West Country cornet, trombone, banjo, double bass and drum players to join him on clarinet & saxes. The band rapidly achieved a top reputation and became much in demand at Jazz Festivals all over Britain and for tours in continental Europe. They have just been at the ten-day Bude Festival and will be on a tour of Spain before coming to Martock to give a concert for the Guardians of Martock Church to raise funds for the preservation of the buildong, the 2nd largest parish church in Somerset and arguably the most beautiful. This concert will be the 86th for the Guardians since 2002 and over 11,000 people have attended. The Guardians charge very conservative prices for Tickets, £7 on the door or £6 in advance from 01935 822706 to encourage wide participation as the church can seat 300 with an unobstructed view. Martock Church has hosted nine New Orleans Jazz bands in the last four years, so this time the Dart Valley Stompers will play more New York than New Orleans, with favoutite tunes from the 1930/40s, melodies such as I've Found a New Baby; Girl of My Dreams; Deed I Do; Shine; My Blue Heaven; Sweet Georgia Brown and a dozen more. Do join us for a fun evening starting at 7.30pm and finishing at 9.50pm. Wine and fruit juice will be available before the concert and in the interval.
