Third of divorces fuelled by household chores
Sadly, divorce is a part of UK culture these days and hardly anyone can be surprised by how common it has become. What may be surprising, however, are the reasons that lie behind people's decisions to go their separate ways.
According to a new survey from household and cleaning products manufacturer Vileda, almost one in three couples split up because they find it impossible to agree who should do household chores! Although arguments over household issues may not be as common a reason for divorce as having an affair or estrangement, it is still surprising that so many people can't cope with trivial matters that then aggravate to such an extent that they can't stand each other's company.
While 56% of couples say that household chores can play a serious part when marriages break up, almost three in five believe that living with a person who does not help around the house can be a source or conflict.
On average, couples have an argument over the issue of chores three times per month over a period of nine months before they decide to call it a day. However, for 17% of the couples, arguments went on for more than two years before consulting lawyers.

Not surprisingly, infidelity remains the most common reason for splitting up, accounting for 40% of divorces, followed by drifting apart, which causes more than one in three separations.
