Junior Players to stage a peach of a production

Tuesday, February 02, 2010, 15:37

One of Roald Dahl's classic children's stories is being brought to life on stage at Shipham Village Hall next week.

James and the Giant Peach is being staged by the junior section of Shipham Players.

When James Henry Trotter's parents are inconveniently eaten by rhinoceros while out shopping, he is sent away to live with his two revolting relatives, Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. Made to do all the housework while his hideously ugly aunties argue about who is the most beautiful, he becomes the loneliest boy in whole world.

Until one day an old woman passes by their ramshackle house and brings some marvellous magic into James's life.

The youth section of Shipham Players will take the audience on a whirlwind of an adventure, as James and his larger than average insect friends risk everything to start new life in the Big Apple on board a giant Peach.

Wonderful sets, fantastic costumes and a huge dollop of imagination lift Roald Dahl's words from the page to the stage to create a fantasy that will captivate and enthral the whole family.

The show has been adapted by Richard George and performances are on Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm with an additional matinee on Saturday at 3pm.

Tickets are £7 children and young people aged 18 and under £3.

They are available from Hansfords, The Square, Shipham, but unfortunately no telephone booking is available.
