Youngsters compete in formal speech competition

TEAMS of young people from Bridgwater College, East Bridgwater Community School and Chilton Trinity Technology College took part in the Rotary Senior Youth Speaks contest last week.

Three teams, each with three members, were asked to present a formal speech on a subject of their choice in the hopes of going through to the semi-final of the contest.

Overall winners of the competition were Bridgwater College with a speech called Now Is That What I Call Music. Aidan Peppin, representing Bridgwater College, was presented with the Rotary Endeavour Cup for best speaker and Bridgwater College was presented with the Derek Gibson Cup for the best team.

Leanne Baker was the chairwoman of the team and Annabel Whitcombe was the proposer of a vote of thanks.

The winning team goes forward to the next round which is the Rotary Western Area Semi-Final at Huish Episcopi School, Langport, which takes place on Thursday, February 11 at 6.30pm.

Prizes were presented by Sedgemoor Rotary Club president Gordon Fraser and Bridgwater Rotary Club president Steve Russell.
