Fast food gets OK for 24/7

MCDONALD'S in Bridgwater has been given permission to remain open 24 hours a day.

The fast-food restaurant in The Clink applied to Sedgemoor District Council's licensing panel to be allowed to service food and drinks all day, every day.

Before, the restaurant could only serve Big Macs and the like until 11pm – the new licence conditions means the drive-through can stay open all day, every day.

Although the restaurant itself will not be open after 11pm, anyone in a car or on a motorbike will be served.

Conditions attached to the planning consent include prominent signs being displayed saying people on foot will not be served, CCTV will be installed to cover the entirety of the car park and lights in the restaurant will be turned down when it's closed. Signs will have to be hung explaining all customers must leave quietly after being served.

A spokesman said: "Although the store will not be opening 24/7 straight away, it is good to know that we've got the permission for when we do want to stay open all the time."
