The barbers has just converted its women's hairdressing section into a contemporary art gallery and cafe and unveiled its first featured artist on Saturday night – James Starr of Bristol.

A longtime friend of the Street branch's co-owner John McMahon, James's career has rocketed and his mix of screen printing, photography, illustration and spray painting can also be bought at the barbers.
Alex Virdee, Street manager and co-owner, said: "We are not following anyone, we are leading people and it would be great for people to realise they don't just have to have their hair cut to come here.

Chop hopes to change the featured artist every few months to keep it looking different.
Mr Starr visited the barbers- cum-gallery cafe on Saturday night. He said: "John and Alex want to make this in to a relaxing place and create interest in the building with the cafe and art."
The artist's influences range from American retro, album covers, club fliers and European art to Spanish graffiti in Barcelona and Madrid, among others.
