No assault on Cannington please
WE are aware EDF was overwhelmed by the returns to their Stage I Consultation.
We look forward to hearing their positive proposals for local infrastructure which does not include a wholesale assault on Cannington and the adjacent area.
With the first stage of the EDF consultation complete for the proposed Hinkley Point C, Save Cannington Action Group, is currently monitoring the level of chaos on the A39 west of Bridgwater.
Wessex Water's roadworks and the use of "rat runs" through Wembdon and Durleigh give a good idea of what to expect if the EDF proposals as shown in the EDF Hinkley Point C Impact Report issued in January go ahead.
The group is also working on a new and not previously published proposal for a New Hinkley Point traffic only road which could be struck from the Dunball island, moving north west to cross the river north of the Pawlett Hams, then following the 400kv high tension lines to join the Hinkley Point road north of Wick.
Such a road, which would involve the Environment Agency, Bristol Port Authority and the various wildlife organisations as well as local groups and councils, is worth investigating as if offers many advantages to all stake-holders.
