Take part in abseil in aid of Special Care Baby Unit
Volunteers with a head for heights are needed to help raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at Yeovil District Hospital.
There will be a 100ft abseil down the side of Yeovil District Hospital on Saturday, November 9 to help raise the £500,000 needed to build a bigger and better Special Care Baby Unit as part of the Flying Colours Appeal.
A minimum of £75 in sponsorship is required to take part in the abseil along with a £15 registration fee. All participants will receive a medal and a certificate on completion of the challenge and anyone that raises over £125 will also receive a free abseil T-shirt.
Sarah Cherry, community fundraiser for the Flying Colours Appeal said: “After the success of our last abseil, we have been receiving regular requests for another abseil to be organised. The last abseil, earlier in the year rose over £18,000 for the Special Care Baby Unit, with over 100 people taking part. I was blown away by everyone’s determination. There were people absolutely petrified of heights, but not one person backed out of the challenge on the day.”

The Flying Colours Appeal is raising funds for a new Special Care Baby Unit. Premature babies and babies born with serious health problems need immediate support in a specially designed environment.
The Special Care Baby Unit provides this support but is not big enough. Around 200 babies every year are placed in the unit. Many will stay for several weeks until they are well enough to be looked after by their parents. If the £500,000 target is reached a new unit with more space for privacy and visitors, critical equipment and better security will be built.
Anyone over the age of 12 is invited to take part. More information and a copy of the registration form can be obtained by emailing email@example.com or ringing her on 01935 383020.
