The living dead are to take over Glastonbury as the town hosts it's first official Zombie walk.

The braaaaains behind the event are volunteers for Marthacare, a Glastonbury charity set up in memory of Martha Mickshik, of Norbins Road, who died in May 2006, aged seven, from a brain tumour.

The charity provides a specialist family support service at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Residents are being urged to dress up in their favourite undead costumes and stagger through the town to help raise money and awareness for the charity.

During the event, the town's zombies are being encouraged to remain in character and to communicate in grunts, groans and requests for brains or human flesh to nibble on.

Although the walk is being held on October 28, the undead are already chomping at the bit on their Facebook and Twitter accounts, with the horde making frequent mentions of their desire to make a meal out of readers of the Central Somerset Gazette, and the villagers of nearby Pilton.

"I always thought that Glastonbury was the perfect place for a zombie walk," said Maggie Mickshik, founder of Marthacare.

"It seemed like an event that the whole town could get it's teeth into."

After shuffling through the town, the zombies will converge on Tor Sport and Leisure Centre for an evening of music, hallowe'en games and a firewalk.

For more information, or to get involved in helping organise the walk, contact Marthacare by emailing info@marthacare.co.uk, or phoning 01458 833323.
