A teenager who tried to smash the window of a Yeovil takeaway by throwing a large rock at it told police he had done it for “payback”.

Ashley Darren Farley bore a grudge against the Turkish owner of the premises and said he had attempted to break the window as he was angry at an alleged remark the owner had made towards him.

Fortunately the window did not break but the defendant was arrested and appeared before South Somerset and Mendip Magistrates.

Farley, 18, of St Patricks Road, Yeovil, pleaded guilty to attempting to destroy the front window belonging to Ifood Takeaway in Yeovil on December 1, and the offence was racially aggravated.

Prosecutor Gordon Richings said that a member of the cleaning staff at the takeaway premises in Wessex Road was working at 10.30pm when a male approached and threw a large rock at the front window.

“The rock bounced off the glass and did not cause any damage but the defendant got into the front passenger seat of a vehicle which was later traced by police to an address in Mudford,” he said.

“Farley was arrested and admitted he had gone to the takeaway earlier and said he didn’t care and was going to “keep going back until he did it – f***ing Turkish” adding that it was payback.”

Farley told the magistrates that he admitted acting in a reckless manner alleging the owner of the premises had made a hurtful remark to him the night before when he delivered an order to his friend’s house.

The case was adjourned until January 21 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and until then Farley was bailed on condition he does not go within 100 metres of the Ifood store.
