Yeovil gas leak road closure causes nine hours of traffic disruption
A gas leak in Yeovil caused disruption to residents and motorists for around nine hours on Friday.
Sherborne Road residents were without hot water during the day due to emergency repairs of a gas main in the area.
A spokeswoman for Wales and West Utilities said it received a number of calls reporting a smell of gas in various places around Yeovil.
The gas company sent an engineer to Sherborne Road on Friday afternoon where he found gas leaking from a corroded pipe. One lane of the roundabout was closed while the work was carried out.

The Wales and West Utilities spokeswoman added: “We received reports of a gas leak on Sherborne Road, Yeovil, last Friday morning and sent an engineer to investigate.
“The source of the leak was found to be linked to a gas main in the area which we have repaired. We received a small number of calls reporting a gas smell in other parts of Yeovil. These were investigated but were not found to be linked to our gas distribution network.
“If people smell gas they should call the gas emergency number – 0800 111 999.”
