He beat off stiff competition from Swindon Town goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, who conceded just one goal in five games, and Doncaster Rovers’ Rob Jones.

Madden’s spectacular month started with a fine brace against Leyton Orient on New Year’s day before scoring two in each game against Sheffield United and MK Dons. The run of goals has continued into February.

The striker originally signed on loan from fellow League One side Carlisle United but signed a permanent deal in January. Since his arrival he has scored freely and is currently the league’s top scorer with 17 goals.

Rovers captain Parkes has put in a series of convincing performances during the club’s revival in recent weeks to win him the npower League Two award.

Rovers won three of their four games during the month including victories at play-off chasers Fleetwood (3-0) and Rotherham (3-1).

The only defeat was at home to then leaders Gillingham, whose boss Martin Allen beat nominee John Ward to the manager award.
