Yeovil Town's Paddy Madden is determined to keep on scoring – Kevin Dawson

Paddy Madden’s goal-scoring form may be taking League One by storm – but one of his closest Yeovil Town team-mates has seen it all before.

The Irishman is on the brink of breaking a 50-year-old Glovers’ record, travelling to Doncaster today aiming to net in his eighth successive game.

The affable 22-year-old has struck 18 times in 25 appearances for Yeovil this season, with ten in his last seven games firing Gary Johnson’s men to within a point of the League One summit.

However, midfielder Kevin Dawson said he always knew about Madden’s attacking potency, adding a hunger to keep the run going and frustrations borne from a tough 18 months in Carlisle were keeping his house-mate grounded.

“He did it playing under-16s for Bohemians (in Ireland) before he turned professional and that was when he got his name about,” said Dawson, who grew up streets away from Madden in Dublin.

“He scored 50 in 23 games while still at school, or something crazy like that. But this is the first time he has really banged them in.

“He’s always been like that, when he’s confident he is hard to stop. James Hayter is flying as well so, hopefully, they can keep that going.

“He’s surprisingly very down to earth and grounded at the minute. He’s so determined, especially after the spell at Carlisle. He wants this to keep going as long as possible. He’s really grounded and hungry to keep going.”

Dawson – brother of Barnsley’s Stephen – headed to England at the end of last year, impressing Johnson in a trial before signing a deal until the end of the season in January.

The ex-Shelbourne and Sporting Fingal man’s athleticism and energy have seen him settle quickly at Huish Park and he has started the Glovers last six matches, an experience described as “unbelievable”.

“Things are going really well at the minute with eight wins in a row,” Dawson said. “The boys are just playing really well, everyone is working as hard as they can and it is all falling into place. Hopefully we can keep it going.

“It’s been unbelievable to be honest, everything’s going so well. We need to keep our feet on the ground, work as hard as we can, take one game at a time and keep going.

“There’s no point thinking what could happen as you could get caught up in it. We are just taking one step at a time, just thinking about the next 90 minutes. Eventually you might just look down and see where you are.

“Everyone is enjoying their football and all just really looking forward to that next game. (Today) is another massive game, another away from home and, hopefully, we can get another three points.

“We have got some really big wins at Coventry and Sheffield United, but this is another massive one for us.”

Dawson added that the Glovers accepted their winning streak would have to end at some point, but said they would only be happy going down with a fight.

He said: “We don’t mind it coming to an end if 11 players are working their hardest.”
