Yeovil Town boss Gary Johnson has signalled his intent to keep midfield duo Daniel Johnson and Korey Smith at Huish Park beyond their initial loans.

Aston Villa’s Daniel Johnson arrived at Yeovil on a month-long temporary youth deal at the end of October, with the agreement set to expire after Tuesday’s npower League One trip to Crawley Town.

The Jamaican-born player is in line for his second start in green and white hoops at Swindon Town on Saturday as Ed Upson continues to serve a four-match ban.

Smith will head back to Norwich City before the Boxing Day visit to AFC Bournemouth and although Gary Johnson will have to wait until the New Year to negotiate his return to Somerset, the boss has made no attempts to hide his desire to keep Smith.

On the pair, Gary Johnson said: “All the loans I am bringing in I am trying to make them long-term loans, which most of them are.

“Dan Burn and Daniel Johnson are both on youth loans so then you don’t miss out, it doesn’t have to be 93 days and you can keep re-signing them every month.

“You get permission from the parent clubs, and that is what I would like to do. I would like to keep all of them because you Yeovil-ify them a bit and they understand what I want from them. I don’t want to waste the time that we spend getting them into the way we do things.

“We will have to wait until January 1 to talk to Norwich and see what they say. We will both have to talk to Korey so there is a lot of things that have got to happen but certainly I would like to keep him.

“He is a good player and a good lad and I think it is doing him the world of good playing regular games every week.”

The Glovers head to the County Ground four points away from League One’s top four and having won five of their last seven outings in the division.

Only Tranmere Rovers have scored more goals on their travels than Yeovil and Gary Johnson said it was now up to his inexperienced team to at least stay in touch with the teams above them.

“We are having to work very hard to stay in a challenging position but we know we have got to do that,” he said We haven’t got that budget where we can go out there and just do what we like.

“We have still got a lot of players that are going to be a lot better for the experience of this season. There are a lot of them that haven’t played that many games. You’ve got Dan Burn, Daniel Johnson, Sam Foley and even Byron Webster who haven’t played many games. Joe Edwards is similar, as is Marek Stech, Keanu Marsh-Brown and Paddy Madden.

“There are plenty that haven’t played many games and I could name three-quarters of the squad that are still gaining experience at the minute.

“Whilst we are doing that we are just about keeping touch. We should probably be a little bit happier with our lot than we sometimes are.”
