Yeovil Town fail away again
Yeovil’s struggles on the road continued as Tranmere took the spoils from this League One encounter at Prenton Park.
Glovers manager Terry Skiverton had spoken this week about changing the way the Somerset side tackle away trips, but this result will have him heading back to the drawing board again.arlier this week, Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton had talked about tweaking and changing the way the south Somerset side tackle away trips until they discover a successful formula for winning a game on the road.

The visitors have not enjoyed life away from home this season, winning just the once, and that record stayed intact in Merseyside last night leaving the Huish Park chief to go back to his drawing board.
Skiverton had expressed a wish for his side to be more steely and physical on the road.

The Glovers held their own for the first half but two goals in the opening seven minutes of the second half, scored by Ian Thomas-Moore and Ash Taylor, did the damage.
Skiverton made two changes to the starting line up which defeated Exeter City 2-1 on Saturday.
The Glovers switched formation to an initial 4-4-1-1 formation and brought in Kieran Murtagh and Nathan Smith for Ryan Mason and Jon Obika who both dropped to the substitutes’ bench.
The fact Yeovil had never won at Prenton Park in their history did not promise much.
The closest either side came to breaking the deadlock in the first quarter came through two vague half-chances for the Glovers.
However, Dean Bowditch failed to trouble Tranmere keeper Luke Daniels and Sam Williams was denied the chance to unleash a shot by Taylor. It got only slightly better during the rest of the first period and the home side were at the forefront of the brighter efforts.
The Yeovil defence could not deal with the physical presence of Thomas-Moore, who got his head on a long searching ball and found strike partner Terry Gornell.
However, the 20-year-old could not keep the ball under control and volleyed over Alex McCarthy’s crossbar.
The England Under-21 keeper was then forced into his first serious action of the half and was more than equal to a Thomas-Moore turn and shot.
The Glovers started the second period in horrible fashion by conceding twice in quick succession.
The first real cohesive moment of football was put together by the hosts who scored their first goal in over five hours of competitive football by doing so.
The guests’ defence had little answer to a move finished off by Thomas-Moore from a lay-off by defender Ian Goodison.
Moments later, Yeovil failed to pick up Craig Curran at a free-kick, taken by Chris Shuker, and the Tranmere forward’s slide-rule pass was turned in by Taylor with McCarthy helpless.
Skiverton attempted to shake matters up by introducing the services of Mason, Yeovil’s match-winner against Exeter City at the weekend.
The Tottenham Hotspur loanee showed off his undoubted promise by producing two sublime through balls for Smith and Williams who both went down in the penalty area under the attentions of Tranmere defenders for weak penalty claims. Andy Welsh and Obika were also introduced to the action as the game crept towards its finish.
But their introduction made little difference in an evening when hosts’ keeper Daniels was rarely seriously tested until injury-time.
Obika was taken down in the penalty area and Mason fired in a consolation from the penalty spot.
