Yeovil Town captain Jamie McAllister has vehemently denied allegations that he racially abused a Tranmere Rovers opponent last weekend.

Two national newspapers this morning reported an incident involving the Scottish left back and Rovers' Abdulai Bell-Baggie as the former Glover was substituted 20 minutes into the second half at Huish Park.

Whereas unwilling to comment directly on the incident, Yeovil manager Gary Johnson was disappointed news broke before the club had heard from the Football Association of any investigation.

Johnson said: "We didn't know until quite some time after the game that somebody may have complained about something during the game.

"We haven't heard anything official and until you hear something official you cannot make any comments as a manager.

"I have spoken to Jamie and asked him. He will always vehemently deny any allegation and has done. He's very upset by it, to be honest, but that's all you can say.

"If it gets around to it and the FA and Professional Footballers' Association have to look into it then they will deal with whichever person is telling the truth and more so have to deal with the person that's not telling the truth.

"It seems it's one person's word against another's word, which is dangerous these days. I have probably said too much but you trust the officials that are involved that they will do the right things and see who is right and who is wrong."

Johnson - who this weekend takes his side to relegation-threatened but resurgent Hartlepool United - also hoped for a swift resolution of the matter.

"It's not very nice to have that thing hanging over you either way," he said. "In this day and age where people can say things in one way or the other and hear things we don't know until we hear officially what exactly was said.

"It disappoints me when it gets out publicly when people haven't had the chance to speak to all the parties."

The FA confirmed they are investigating an incident that took place during the Yeovil Town versus Tranmere Rovers game but are not releasing any more information.
