Yeovil Town announce plans for youth development centres
Yeovil Town have revealed plans for youth coaching centres starting in the autumn and backed by the club’s first team management.
The introduction of the Premier League-devised Elite Player Performance Plan forced the Glovers to cut eight youth teams from under-eights to under-16s.

Football League clubs have had to apply to join one of four categories set out by the EPPP, an initiative that 22 outfits - including Yeovil - voted against last year.
However, to maintain their current provision from previous seasons and qualify for category three the Glovers would have had to improve training facilities they do not necessarily own as well as increase their investment from £30,000 a year to £105,000 to qualify for a grant.

As a result, the Huish Park side decided in May to retain only their under-18s team. This week, the club announced it will also commence an Elite Soccer Development Centre for under-nine to under-15 age groups at RNAS Yeovilton on Thursday, September 13 led by Roy O’Brien and Bob Thomas of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust.
Budding future stars will take to the base’s artificial surface between 6pm-9pm with start times to be decided once numbers attending each age group are established. Glovers’ boss Gary Johnson and members of the first team coaching staff and squad will attend sessions throughout the season.
A games plan will also be agreed to enable the best players to play regular matches against county representative teams, professional club academies and other advanced development centres.
