Yate Town's charge continues with win over Taunton Town
Yate Town continued their charge up the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South & West table with a well-deserved 2-1 win over struggling Taunton Town.
Rob Cousins’ side, who were marooned at the bottom of the table as recently as November, are now up to eighth place, just seven points outside the play-offs with games in hand.
The hosts had the two best opportunities of the opening period, but Scott Wilson was denied by goalkeeper Grant Fisher on both occasions.
However, six minutes into the second half, after Wilson had another shot blocked, Mike Bryant’s follow-up effort went through the crowded goalmouth and beyond Fisher.

Five minutes later, Wilson was played through once again and he slid a low shot beyond the goalkeeper to double the home side’s advantage. Two goals down, Taunton stepped up a gear and halved the deficit through skipper Simon Ingram. However, they were unable to force an equaliser despite Yate defender Tom Warren having to take over in goal following an injury to Josh Dempsey.
