A Frome writer will be joining famous faces from history at one of London's famous landmarks.

Frome poet and writer Crysse Morrison will be part of national arts project One & Other, which involves performing in London's Trafalgar Square.

The project was conceived by Anthony Gormley, who built the Angel of the North.

He has focused on an empty plinth in Trafalgar Square. There are four plinths; the others have statues of 19th-century kings and generals, so the idea is to reclaim this fourth plinth for the modern community for 100 days, 24 hours a day.

Out of more than 14,000 applicants, 2,400 people have been chosen to occupy the space and Crysse is one of them.

She has been allotted Saturday, July 18, from 4pm to 5pm.

She said: "We can do whatever we like up there, so as a writer I plan to put the focus on words, performing some of my poems and perhaps reading some of the work of others."

Crysse is now asking Frome people to provide words and ideas.

"As this is a community arts project, which is what Frome does so well, what I'd really like to do is have a couple of breaks where I feature words and ideas sent in from people in the town," she said.

"I am collecting short poems, including ones for or by children, favourite quotes and quips, even messages like birthday greetings."

Not only will it be heard by the audience in Trafalgar Square, it will also be broadcast on Sky and online.

In support of Crysse, Frome people such as Patrick Dunn and Laurence Parnell both came forward to lend her a portable PA system, Nick Waterhouse has provided the microphone and Mandie Stone, of Love Arts in Catherine Hill, is kitting her out.

Crysse said: "It would be wonderful if people would send me their messages and quotes for me to read out on the plinth, so I really do represent Frome and 'spoken word' in our community."
