Wright, Pegg and Frost get GQ Comedians of the Year award
WELLS director Edgar Wright and buddies Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have been named GQ Comedians of the Year in the wake of The World's End.
The apocalyptic pub crawl film is based on Wright's own experience as a 19-year-old in Wells (though the film was made in Welwyn Garden City).
And when shooting Hot Fuzz he again attempted "The Golden Mile" (as he dubbed Wells because it is roughly a mile wide) with his regular collaborators.
In an interview with GQ, Edgar said: "Me and my friends tried to do it when I was about 19. I think by pub six I was already completely flying but they were less so; I was more of a lightweight than they were.

"I did that classic drunk thing where I split off from them - I was seeing this girl at the time and I thought in my drunken stupor, 'Oh yeah, I should go off and find her.'"
What followed was a frosty reception from his then-girlfriend's mother and ended with Wright running into a clothes line and bruising his neck.
Nick Frost said: "Me, Edgar and Simon went for one once. Simon … he's not a drinker. So three in, he was ruined. We had to carry him home. Literally. We were out in Somerset on this pub crawl and were finished at 9pm."
Hot Fuzz, voted the best of the Cornetto trilogy in our past poll, seems to be constantly re-run on ITV2. Our photographer Jason Bryant, who featured as an extra for two-tenths of a second during the pursuit of a shoplifter down Wells High Street, said it is a real shame these characters would not see the light of life again.
Jason said: "There are lots of references to Bad Boys 2 in the film, so why not Hot Fuzz 2? I think PC Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) should go to London."
