Passers-by may have wondered what a field full of people in Berkley were doing pouring magic potions on the grass and stamping the ground last Saturday.

They were all taking part in the third annual Worm Wondathon organised by Berkley School.

Eighteen families competed against each other to see who could charm the most worms out of the ground and also the longest.

The Evans family were the winners having persuaded 56 worms to emerge with the longest measuring in at 20cm.

Wellington boots and garden implements were used to thump the ground and magic potions sold at a stall were spread across the grass to entice the worms out.

There were also stalls, splat the rat, a wellie throwing competition and stalls.
