Wookey Hole Caves look to Eastern Europe for new witch
The shortage of witches in Somerset has led Wookey Hole Caves to search Eastern Europe for a new broom-rider.
Wookey Hole Caves has been looking for a replacement witch since current broom-sitter, Sunny van der Pas handed in her notice last month.
Although around 100 people have requested application forms so far only a handful have been returned.
With "Hex Factor" auditions being held on October 22 – where potential witches will do a one minute audition in front of a panel of judges – the cave owners are now spreading their net wider.
Daniel Medley, Wookey Hole Caves director, said: "We are astonished that there are so few people wanting such a fun job. With so many people doing degrees in performing arts and wanting to be in showbusiness we thought we would be inundated with enquiries.
"We have now put the advertisement out through some agencies that promote UK jobs in Eastern Europe.
"Maybe the next witch of Wookey will come from Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia or Slovakia.
"The agencies told us there are a lot of people interested in such work. The job is open to anyone that can convince us they can entertain and be a credit to the world-renowned witch."
