A WOMAN was trapped in a car after it hit the central reservation of the M5, flipped over and landed in the carriageway yesterday morning.

At 11.15am between Junctions 23 and 24 of the motorway, a car travelling southbound collided with the central barrier, rolled over and ended up in the left-hand lane.

Both the South Western Ambulance Service (SWAS) and the Devon and Somerset Fire Service received numerous calls about the crash.

The husband and wife who were in the car were both left with minor injuries, according to SWAS spokeswoman Melodie Juste, but the female patient was trapped in the car, unable to release herself from the wreckage.

Ms Juste said: "Both patients were injured but not with any life-changing or -threatening problems."

Both were taken by ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
