The body of a woman has been recovered from the water at a seaside resort.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, was pulled from the water off Weston-super-Mare, at around 11.20pm on Wednesday night.

A passer-by alerted coastguards after seeing someone walking along the beach near the Tropicana towards the sea at 11pm.

Two of the town's lifeboats searched the sea and located the woman 20 minutes later.

First aid was carried out before she was passed over to the care of paramedics but she did not survive.

Avon and Somerset police have confirmed that it was a sudden death and there are no suspicious circumstances.
