Windsurfing star Zara Davis joins in sponsored row for lifeboat
A marathon rowing attempt raised nearly £2,000 for the lifeboat service in Weston-super-Mare, with those taking part covering the equivalent distance of a trip to Sharpness in Gloucestershire.
Teams and individuals turned up at Sainsbury’s in Worle for the challenge in aid of the RNLI.

Councillor Cyril King, Mayor of Weston-super-Mare, joins the charity row with members of the RNLI and staff from Sainsbury’s at Worle
Among them was Clevedon’s windsurfing champion Zara Davis, the world speed record holder, who tested her fitness on the computerised rowing machine outside the supermarket.
Weston RNLI spokesman, Glyn Hayes, said the event was held as part of the annual SOS fundraising day for the organisation. Sainsbury’s is also supporting the service this year and members of the store’s staff were among those having a go at the marathon.
Mr Hayes said: “It was bitterly cold but we had people on the machine all day and covered the equivalent of about 50 miles.”
He said the money would be used to buy new lifejackets for the lifeboat crews.
