Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club member Finch has competed at the annual event twice before, picking up silver medals at the 2011 and 2012 championships.

The 18-year-old has proven she is once again in medal contention, having racked up a great run of results in the past year.

Finch impressed in her first senior regatta last summer, taking on Olympic sailors at the Skandia Sail for Fold in Weymouth and Portland.

She also clinched silver at the 2012 Youth European Championships in Denmark, asserting herself at the top end of the RS:X windsurfing fleet.

Next month’s regatta, based at Largs Sailing Club, has been a breeding ground for top sailors in the past, including multiple Olympic gold medallists Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy and Sarah Ayton.

The event doubles up as a selection event for the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships, which this year take places in Limmassol, Cyprus.

RYA youth racing manager Duncan Truswell said: “The RYA Youth National Championships represents the first major opportunity of the new season for youth sailors from around the UK and beyond to compete against each other and contest for selection to international teams across the range of classes.

“The event always sees some fierce competition, some surprises and some early indications of who to look out for to win medals for Great Britain at World and European Championships this summer.”

The RYA youth racing programme receives support from title sponsor Volvo Car UK and official clothing supplier Henri Lloyd.
