“In fact, it is an appeal that runs throughout the year.

“Along with many charities, the amount raised by the Poppy Appeal is down on other years so we were delighted when, on hearing of our attempts to make up the shortfall, Dave offered to help.

“We look forward to working closely with him throughout the rest of the year.”

Mr Wiscombe helped raise around £4,700 for Wincanton Community Hospital’s X-ray and ultrasound scanner appeal after selecting it as the pub’s cause last year.

Alan Judge, treasurer of the Friends of Wincanton Community Hospital group, said: “We were pleased that a lot of local businesses donated to the appeal or sponsored our events.

“Ian was the first to do that and really set things going.”

Wincanton’s Armed Forces Day celebration on Saturday, June 29, will see a fun day held at the pub during the day time, with a marquee erected in the grounds. Yeovil-based singer Sarah Lowery has pledged to perform.
