Win a signed Bristol City shirt and a case of Blackthorn cider
As 2012 drew to a close, so did a special anniversary for a local industry.
Blackthorn cider turned 40 in 2012, celebrating its special birthday in some style.

Produced at the Shepton Mallet Cider Mill and part of the fabric of the West Country, Blackthorn has supported community events such as Mendip in Bloom and the Mendip Ploughing Match, as well as continued close associations with sports clubs.
Now a longstanding leading brand, when the idea of Blackthorn was first conceived, it represented a highly innovative approach to both the production and sale of cider.

But the drinks market in the UK was evolving rapidly back in 1972 and the Shepton Mallet Cider Mill (or the Taunton Cider Company Ltd as it was then) was a successful South West cider maker with a loyal local following.
It was felt the time was right to expand its position nationally, and cement its credentials as the home of traditional English cider.
There was an obvious gap in the market as brands available at that time were typically sweet or at best medium dry.
Bob Chaplin, fruit and orcharding manager at Shepton Mallet Cider Mill, explains: "The brief in 1972 was to come up with a dry full-bodied cider to appeal first to men, but that might also be adopted by women who prefer to avoid sweeter drinks."
Blackthorn has teamed up with the Mid Somerset Series to provide a competition to celebrate the 40th year. First prize is a 3ft by 2.5ft framed signed Bristol City Football Club shirt.
Blackthorn has been a long standing supporter of BCFC and this season was made the club's first official principle partner. This is also the first season since 1994/95 that Blackthorn has appeared on the front of the shirt.
The lucky winner of the shirt will also receive a case of 24 cans of Blackthorn plus a Blackthorn beanie hat and scarf. Four-runners up will each be given a case of 24 cans of Blackthorn plus a Blackthorn beanie hat and scarf.
